Tom and I have been together for about 13 years. We own a home together, we have a gorgeous, perfect, 5 year old son together, and we both consider ourselves a married couple. We just sort of skipped the official marriage part. Although I must admit, it would be nice to be able to refer to him as my husband (calling him my boyfriend just doesn't seem to paint an accurate picture), we have other priorities. A traditional wedding is not something I care to plan, nor do I have the time for.In the spring of 2007, after an 8 month waiting period, Tom and I were finally able to march into the evaluation room at Children’s Mercy Hospital and demand that the 4 specialists explain to us why our toddler was able to read, identify shapes, spout off the planets in order, identify an impressive amount of ocean life, was utterly fascinated with numbers, but was unable to really communicate. Sam was diagnosed with PDD-NOS.
